Medical Nutrition Therapy and Preventative Nutrition Counseling

Julie Pace, RDN provides two distinct types of nutrition counseling depending on your health needs and insurance coverage:

Medical Nutrition Therapy

Medical nutrition therapy (MNT) is a clinically based nutrition service used to treat specific health conditions including:

  • Gut conditions such as IBS, SIBO, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis
  • Hormone related conditions including PCOS and thyroid disorders
  • Metabolic conditions such as insulin resistance, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, and high cholesterol
  • Perimenopause and menopause related health concerns
  • Obesity and weight related metabolic conditions

MNT provided by a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist is covered by most major insurance plans including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, and United Healthcare.

Preventative Nutrition Counseling

You don’t need a diagnosis to benefit from working with a registered dietitian. Preventative nutrition counseling is designed for women who want to:

  • Understand how food affects their gut, hormones, and metabolism
  • Get ahead of health concerns before they become diagnoses
  • Optimize energy, digestion, and overall wellbeing
  • Build sustainable nutrition habits based on their unique body
  • Reduce long term risk of chronic disease through food and lifestyle

Coverage for preventative nutrition counseling varies by insurance plan. Benefits are verified before your first visit so you know exactly what to expect.

How Nutrition Counseling Works

Step 1 — Your Initial Consultation

Your first session is 60 to 75 minutes  and sometimes longer depending on the complexity of your health history. This isn’t a rushed intake. Julie takes a deep dive into your symptoms, medical history, lab results, medications, supplements, food patterns, lifestyle, and goals. The goal is to understand the full picture of your health before making a single recommendation.

Step 2 — Your Personalized Nutrition Plan

Based on your assessment Julie builds a clear, customized nutrition and lifestyle plan designed specifically for your body, your health conditions, and your real life. If functional health testing is recommended those results are incorporated directly into your plan. No generic handouts, only guidance built around you.

Step 3 — Ongoing Support and Plan Refinement

Follow up sessions range from 30 to 60 minutes depending on your needs and where you are in your health journey. Your plan evolves as you do. Julie monitors your progress, answers your questions, and adjusts your nutrition strategy as your health changes, so you always have clear direction and never feel like you’re guessing what to do next.

Advanced Functional Health Testing

When standard labs don’t tell the full story Julie offers advanced functional health testing including:

  • Gut microbiome analysis
  • Comprehensive hormone panels
  • Micronutrient status assessment
  • Inflammatory markers
  • Metabolic health markers

These tests provide a deeper level of insight into what’s actually driving your symptoms allowing for a precision nutrition plan backed by real data rather than guesswork.

Functional health testing is available at additional cost and recommended only when clinically appropriate.

Evidence-Based Supplement Guidance

Julie Pace, RDN takes a food-first approach to nutrition. Supplements are recommended only when clinically indicated, never as a replacement for real food or a one-size-fits-all protocol.

When supplements are appropriate Julie provides guidance through her Fullscript online dispensary, a professional grade supplement platform with access to high quality products at a discount.

FSA and HSA funds are accepted through Fullscript.

How many nutrition counseling session will I need?

Every client is different. Most women start with sessions every two to four weeks for the first few months then transition to less frequent check ins as sustainable habits are established.

What do I need to bring to my first nutrition counseling appointment?

        Does insurance cover nutrition counseling?

Yes. We are in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, and United Healthcare. Coverage depends on your plan and diagnosis — benefits are verified before your first visit so there are no surprises.

How is working with a dietitian different from seeing a nutritionist?

A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist holds a nationally accredited credential requiring a graduate degree, 1200+ hours of supervised clinical practice, and a national board exam. RDNs are the only nutrition professionals legally able to provide medical nutrition therapy for clinical conditions — and the only nutrition providers typically covered by insurance.

How do I get started with nutrition counseling?

Simply start the intake process onlione. Once insurance benefits are verified, we will call to schedule your appointment. No referral needed in most cases.
